ISSUES

En Español: TEMAS CLAVE

jobsJobs, Jobs, Jobs.
I was Economic Development Commissioner for Minnesota’s great “Jobs” Governor, Rudy Perpich. I know how to help create jobs with good wages and benefits for Minnesotans in tough economic times.

mark dayton educationThe Best Public Schools, College, and Universities.
I promise to increase state funding for early childhood, K-12, and higher education, in real dollars, every year I am Governor. No exceptions. No excuses.

healthcareQuality, Affordable Health Care for ALL Minnesotans.
Today there is one health insurance employee for every two doctors in America! What a misallocation of resources! I favor a national single-payer health care system, because it puts health care dollars into taking care of people, not insurance company profits.

taxes

Progressive Taxes.
Read my lips, “Tax the rich.”  Minnesota’s wealthiest citizens pay only two-thirds of their fair share of state and local taxes.  That’s wrong.  As Governor, I will raise taxes on the rich of Minnesota, NOT on the rest of Minnesota.

marriageequalityMarriage Equality.
I support full marriage equality with full benefits. All Minnesotans should have the right to legally marry the person they love.

equalrightsA State Equal Rights Amendment.
It is long overdue.  I support adding an Equal Rights Amendment to the Minnesota Constitution.  As Governor, I will do everything I can to help pass that amendment.

seniorsSenior Citizens.
Too many seniors’ lives are being destroyed by predatory prescription drug prices, costly supplemental health insurance, and unaffordable long-term care.  As U.S. Senator, I donated my salary to help seniors buy cheaper prescription drugs in Canada.  As Governor, my Lt. Governor will lead a similar effort here at home.

greenenergy

Green Energy.
“Green” technologies mean cleaner energy, a safer environment, and new jobs.  As Governor, I will lead the way to that future, and develop incentives that will bring green energy industries to Minnesota.

environmentStrong Environmental Protection.
I will transform the present Minnesota Pollution Cooperation Agency into a new Pollution Reduction Agency, by appointing a Commissioner and Board Members who will enforce environmental regulations and reduce pollution.  All state environmental protection agencies and boards will again put people before polluters.

agriculture

Profitable Agriculture.
Farmers deserve to make a fair profit in the marketplace.  I will fight for state and federal policies that support parity prices, bio-fuels, and other value-added processes to keep family farmers in business.

transportation21st Century Transportation.
As Governor, I will begin building the new and expanded highways and public transit systems upon which Minnesota’s social and economic vitality depend.  By issuing Transportation Construction Bonds, backed by federal highway funds, we can greatly increase the number of projects statewide.
